What Type of Riding Do You Do?

Moxie Cycling's line of women's cycling clothes are designed to for comfort and style while you are outdoors having fun on your bicycle.

Very few companies truly provide choices for women's cycling apparel when it comes to fit for a female. Our products are designed everywomen. To help you on your mission if it is to ride longer and stronger or to just ride for the joy of riding and being outside. Below is a guide for cycling and the type of apparel you will need.

First what type of riding do you do:

1. Road bike riding

2. Gravel bike grinding/riding

3. Mountain bike riding

4. Enduro and Downhill cycling

Once you purchase your bike and are ready to get going you need to find thre right bike clothes and bike gear that works for your style.

Beginner Cyclists Start Up List

As a beginner cyclist you will definately need a bike helmet and a performance top that wicks away sweat and is comfortable but not too loose. It is very helpful to have back pockets for your cell phone, keys and a snack. You will also need a bike pump, patch kit and spare tube in case of a flat.

Next Level Cyclist

Next Level Cycist

Longer distances, harder trails and maybe small jumps are a part of getting better at riding. Longer rides and longer time in the saddle means so a bike short with a chamais will become neccessary. If you are riding mountain bikes you may need to consider protective pads for knees and elbows. Long rides mean more outdoor weather exposure to the weather. You may need a long sleeve jersey, cycling pants and a jacket or beanie. There are lots of different cycling adventures yet to experience. See an overview of women's padded bike shorts.

The goal of the women's cycling clothes is to help a rider to ride longer and to feel stronger.

The technical design elements add comfort and utility. One of the features to help a women ride longer is compression. There is lots of information on compression and why it matters on the internet. But to give you a brief overview, it is all about fresh blood flow to the working muscles. Keeping fresh blood flow helps to bring fresh oxygen and energy supply to your muscles. Compression also helps with recovery with it's gentle massage that helps to work out lactic acid buildup after working out. The more you ride your bike, the more you need to protect from all the elements of being outdoors. The weather changes combined with variety of terrain in a daily ride means your cycling gear needs to meet a lot of conditions.

Building a Cycling Waredrobe

The best way to start is with basics.  A few jerseys including a short sleeve, long sleeve and a hoodie or jacket.  Look for performance moisture wicking fabric and a comfortable fit.  You will also need shorts.  Cycling shorts often come with a chamois built in.    There are several levels of chamois.  Generally they differentiate by time on the bike.  The longer the ride the thicker the padding.   A good base chamois will be for up to 4 hours and for mountain biking you may want to wear a looser fitting mountain bike shorts over the chamois.

A good method to build a wardrobe of cycling apparel is to buy pieces that build up a layering strategy. Layering starts with a first layer made from a wicking polyester that is breathable.  Cotton is not good for the first layer because it absorbs sweat and gets wet.  The wet fabric is not comfortable next to the skin so we don't wear cotton in the cold.  The layer next to your skin should keep you dry and is usually a polyester fabric for best performance.
