What is your riding goal for 2019? Do you have a special race, are you organizing a group ride or learning a new skill?
This fall I hope to spend a lot of time on my mountain bike, taking in the best season for riding in Harrisonburg, VA. I look forward to racing both Cross Country and Enduro events in 2020, my favorites being the WVMBA Enduro Series and the Tour de Burg. My goal for the season is to ride steady and race smart, and to build my physical and mental endurance for long, happy days on the bike.
What can you do to encourage more women to ride and enjoy cycling?
Set a positive, likeable, example, and respect and recognize that cycling is very hard sport to get in to. It takes lots of personal drive, and requires tough efforts to get stronger and better. It is important to put yourself outside of your comfort zones in order to grow, but the importance of exercise reigns - as being fit and capable creates confidence like nothing else. Starting a group ride or putting on a clinic specifically for women is a good way to open the door to ladies that may be intimidated or lacking information on how to start riding or how to ride safely. Encourage new riders by hearing their reactions to riding, both positive and negative, and giving a mix of relative advice and encouragement. Also be sure to let them know that "hanger" is very real, and snacking is extremely important while riding.
